What actually works at a company picnic

A bounce castle at a company picnic is a family event, not a team-building exercise. What that means for which castle, and what HR asks for before booking.

A company picnic is really a family event that happens to be paid for by an employer. Once you invite spouses and kids, the planning problem stops looking like a corporate offsite and starts looking like a much bigger birthday party, one where the guest list runs from toddlers to teenagers and nobody organizing it has done this before.

It’s a family event, not team building

If the picnic is adults only, a bounce castle isn’t the right call and we’d tell you that on the phone before taking your booking. It earns its place when employees are bringing their kids, because then it solves the same problem it solves at a birthday: something for a wide age range to do at once, without needing a staffer to run it.

Castle with Slide is the one we’d point a large picnic toward. It holds 1,000 pounds at a time against 800 for Classic Castle, and a company picnic with fifty families on the guest list runs a steadier stream of kids through it than a birthday party ever will.

The certificate question comes before the date question

Whoever books this on the company’s behalf is often not the person who’ll be there on the day, and a facilities manager or an HR contact will frequently ask for proof of insurance before signing off on a vendor for company property or a rented pavilion. We carry liability cover of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $100,000 aggregate, and we keep the certificate on the phone to show whenever it’s asked for. Get that request in early. The person who needs to see it is rarely the one who calls us.

Parking lots and park pavilions both work

We anchor every castle with four to six sandbags rather than stakes, so an office parking lot, a rented park pavilion, or a grass field all hold a castle the same way. What we actually need is a flat spot with a little clearance on every side and continuous power for the blower nearby. If the picnic is at a public park rather than the office itself, check the park’s own rules on vendors and generators before you book. That’s between you and the venue, not something we can clear on your behalf. We’ve collected what the Town of Parker and the Highlands Ranch Metro District publish, with fees and phone numbers.

Booking it

Day rates run $100 to $300 depending on the castle, delivered, set up and collected the same day, and we deliver at no charge to Parker, Denver, Aurora, Castle Rock, Littleton and Centennial. Check our delivery page if the venue is outside those six; we’ll still come, for a fee based on distance. Tell us the date, roughly how many families are coming, and whether you need that certificate emailed ahead of time.
