Trunk or treat ideas that hold up in a Colorado parking lot
A trunk or treat is a parking lot event after dark in late October. What that changes about where a castle goes, what it needs, and what to check before you book.
A trunk or treat is a different animal from a fall festival on a field. Cars park in a row, trunks get decorated, and kids walk the line collecting candy. It happens on asphalt, usually after dark, usually in the last two weeks of October. Every one of those things changes what a bounce castle needs from the lot, and none of it is hard to plan around if you know it before you book.
Put the castle at one end of the line, not in the middle
The trunk line is the event. Kids move along it, and anything that interrupts that flow makes the line jam up. A castle works best parked at one end, where kids land when they finish the loop and where parents can stand and watch without losing sight of the cars. Some organizers put it near the entrance instead so there’s something to do while families arrive. Either works. What doesn’t work is dropping it halfway down the line, which splits the queue and puts a blower cord across the path everyone is walking.
Asphalt is fine. Look up instead
We anchor with four to six sandbags set before anyone climbs on, and we don’t stake into the ground, so a church lot or a school blacktop holds a castle exactly as well as a lawn does. Surface is the question people ask and it’s rarely the one that matters.
Height is. Castle with Slide stands 17 feet tall, and parking lots are full of things at that height: light poles, the wires running between them, a drive-through canopy, the low branches at the edge of the lot where the landscaping is. Classic Castle is 14 feet and clears more. Walk the spot you have in mind and look straight up before you decide, because that’s the measurement that sends us home. Footprints are 13 by 13 feet for the Classic and 15 by 16 for the one with the slide, and both want a little slack on every side for the blower and the anchors.
It’s going up dry, and that’s the easy part
Classic Castle and Castle with Slide run dry only. Castle with Double Water Slide runs wet or dry, but below 50°F it goes up dry too, and a late-October evening in Douglas County is well under that. Plan dry, book whichever castle you want, and nothing about the event has to change.
Two other weather rules are worth knowing when you’re picking a rain date. Our wind limit is 15 mph, and nothing runs in rain, the water unit included, because the blower motor can’t get wet. Both are on our safety page in full.
Dark comes early, and the blower needs power
Sunset lands in the late afternoon by the end of October, so most trunk or treats run in the dark for at least half their length. That makes lot lighting part of the decision: put the castle where the existing lights actually reach rather than at the dim end, and you won’t need to solve it with anything you have to rent separately.
The blower runs continuously for as long as the castle is up, so tell us what power is near the spot when you confirm the date. A church or school lot usually has an exterior outlet somewhere, and knowing which wall it’s on ahead of time saves us both a conversation in the dark. Setup runs 30 to 45 minutes, and the same again at the end.
The insurance question comes from the committee, not the parent
If you’re organizing on church or school property, somebody is going to ask for proof of insurance before a vendor sets up. We carry $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $100,000 aggregate, and we keep the certificate on the phone to show whenever it’s asked for. Request it ahead of the event rather than the morning of. There’s more on booking for an organization in fall festival ideas for a Parker yard or church lot.
A piñata is the cheap add-on for a lot event
We sell five piñata designs outright rather than renting them, and a trunk or treat is an easy place to use one. String it up at the end of the trunk line and let kids take a swing while they wait for the costume parade or whatever closes your evening. See the designs and ask about pricing when you book.
Booking it
Day rates are $100 for Classic Castle, $200 for Castle with Slide and $300 for Castle with Double Water Slide, all on the cost page with what each one includes. We deliver to Parker, Denver, Aurora, Castle Rock, Littleton and Centennial at no extra charge, and further out for a distance fee we’ll quote you before you commit.
Send us the address of the lot and roughly where you’re picturing the castle, and we’ll tell you whether it fits before you book. If the event is in a yard rather than a lot, what your yard needs before we bring the castle covers the same ground for grass and slope.
